Lamor has successfully commissioned two LUT Systems in Navegantes, Brazil, each equipped with state-of-the-art LWS1300 Weir Skimmers, Brush Adapters, MSP & GTA Pumps, and 80 meters of Umbilical Hose. These systems are installed on vessels, transforming them into dedicated Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRV) for offshore operations. This marks an important milestone in Lamor’s growing relationship with the Brazilian customer, laying the groundwork for a long-term collaboration.

The Brazilian market, with its vast offshore oil operations, is important for oil spill response technology. Brazil is one of the largest oil producers globally and ensuring a robust and responsive spill management system is critical to protecting its coastal environment.

The Lamor LUT system consists of a robust hose reel designed for an umbilical hose, which includes hydraulic and oil transfer hoses, with an integrated telescopic lifting arm for deployment and operation of offshore skimmers. It is designed for harsh offshore conditions and is operated from a vessel or barge.

The durable and self-adjusting LWS 1300 is a high-capacity weir type oil recovery skimming unit designed to recover oil in offshore operations and in J/U sweep configurations. The LWS 1300’s large diameter, high buoyancy to weight ratio and its free-floating weir provides excellent wave following characteristics and is suitable for use in all environments. The skimmer is manufactured from marine grade aluminum and stainless steel with three adjustable aluminum floats. The unit is equipped with a self-adjustable weir bellow having an aluminum weir lip.

Used together with the Lamor Umbilical Hose and Reel, deployment is easy and safe and remote controlling is possible. The unit can alternatively be lifted from a single central lifting point. The unit is designed to be used with an oil transfer pump and can also be fitted to a suction or vacuum system. The recommended pump selection is the GTA or MSP 150 pump. Alternatively, the LWS 1300 can be fitted with two pumps, the GTA and the MSP 150. This results in the unit being more suitable for a wider range of recovered oil viscosities and optimizing its capacity. Effective thrusters are another option making the unit more mobile for use in J/U sweep configuration.

Oil spills can have devastating impacts on marine ecosystems, wildlife, and coastal communities. By commissioning these advanced systems, Lamor contributes significantly to minimizing the risk of environmental incidents in Brazilian waters. The LWS1300 Weir Skimmers and associated technologies are designed to efficiently and rapidly recover oil from the sea, reducing environmental damage to Brazil’s rich biodiversity.
