Lamor and Greenflow deepen cooperation to improve ports’ waste management globally

Lamor and Greenflow are joining forces to enhance together the availability of MARPOL compliant waste systems including Port Reception Facilities. A newly signed cooperation agreement paves the way for a globally stronger presence in total solutions for ports to collect and treat the waste generated by the maritime traffic and vessels, thus enhancing their environmental performance as required by the MARPOL convention.

The MARPOL Convention of 1973 mandates all maritime ports to have proper waste collection, reception, and treatment facilities. It aims to combat marine pollution and preserve the ocean's delicate ecosystem.

Lamor provides efficient oil spill response and total waste management solutions from training and consulting to treatment and disposal. Lamor’s environmental protection and material recycling solutions span from on-land facilities and coastal areas to ports, terminals, rivers and the open sea. Their experts can also define the technologies needed to decrease the risks from the traffic and operations in the port area.

Greenflow specialises in providing engineering and tailored solutions for waste management and treatment. They are pioneers in port reception facilities (PRF) that are required to treat all kind of oily and hazardous waste from MARPOL waste collections.

“Combining our business coverages, technologies and expertise allows us to reach more ports and authorities to address to their needs and how we can solve their challenges together to make them MARPOL compliant. There are still hundreds of ports worldwide inadequately equipped to combat pollution. With Greenflow, we share the same goal to equip them with MARPOL level waste management, securing the well-being of sea life and natural habitats”, highlights Lamor’s CEO Johan Grön.

“This agreement is an important milestone in our international growth strategy. Deepening this partnership with Lamor, taking advantage of the complementary knowledge and commercial positioning of both organisations, will allow for an exponential development of our technical solutions for ports in various geographies. We share identical environmental and business values and obviously have a common objective of protecting the maritime environment, which with this cooperation will be reinforced”, says Carlos Cardoso, CEO of Greenflow.

Sea-going vessels produce various liquid and solid waste during their overseas voyages, including onboard sewage, garbage, bilge water, oily slops, and other waste. Keeping the seas and oceans clean should be seen as the overriding obligation for building true capabilities in port waste management, from collection to treatment.

MARPOL includes regulations to prevent and minimise pollution from ships – both accidental pollution and from routine operations. The combined competencies of Lamor and Greenflow will help preserve the delicate ecosystems by reducing the impact of vessel waste on the environment and preserving the surrounding nature.
